About CIMA

Established in 1919, CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants®) is known all over the world as the largest professional body of management accountants. CIMA was set up to not just help individuals, but also businesses to be successful through the use of management accounting. Management accounting is not simply accounting for the balance sheet but is accounting for the entire business.

Partnering with AICPA (the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), in 2012 CIMA founded the CGMA (the Chartered Global Management Accountant) designation, supplying members with even more resources and increased recognition.

Through drawing on the CGMA Global Management Accounting Principles© and CGMA Competency Framework, the CIMA syllabus aids high-performing professionals, assisting them in becoming successful in the finance and business worlds.

CIMA consistently supplies:

  •  Services aimed at improving members professional development.
  •  Helps fund financial and business academic research.
  •  Helps develop thought leadership.
  •  Reviews and monitors the current professional standards.
  •  Ensures a code of ethics is maintained for its members.
  •  Works in tandem with the external tuition providers and assessment services, ensuring they provide the highest quality study and examination experience possible.

Members of CIMA and AICPA formed an association in 2017 called the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. This was created to unite and improve the accounting sector around the world. Through the representation of over 650,000 members and students in management/public accounting, this organisation now gets the accountants of today prepared for current challenges in accounting, and future opportunities in the sector.
